Dance About

The National Ballet of Canada’s Dance About has been going into schools for over 40 years. It is an opportunity for children from various socio-economic backgrounds and cultures to experience classical ballet in their own environment, making the art form more accessible to them.
Four dancers, a piano accompanist and a narrator guide students through a day in the life of a dancer, from ballet class (the daily ritual of stretches and exercises) to a performance. The programme features demonstrations of basic ballet exercises, pointe work, partnering, make-up and wardrobe, as well as the creation of exciting and dramatic characters. Highlights of the performance include a selection of dances from The National Ballet of Canada’s repertoire and students participating in mime demonstrations.
