Assistant Production Director - Contract – 10 months (seasonal)
The National Ballet of Canada, Canada's premiere dance company and one of the world's top international dance companies is seeking an experienced administrator to be part of a dedicated and highly skilled production team. The ideal candidate is highly organized multi-tasker with excellent communications skills and thrives in a fast paced environment.
Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Production, the Assistant Production Director will assist in providing all aspects of technical and production support for all of the National Ballet of Canada's performances and events.
General Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
For "YOU dance" and Special Events
- Obtaining technical requirements for all “YOU dance” activities and all special events
- Creating cost estimates and schedules as required
- Obtaining equipment and supplies as required
- Arranging for and supervising technical crews as required for set-ups and events
- Providing general production assistance for events at both the Walter Carsen Centre and the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts
- For Full Company Toronto and Touring Performances
- Assisting in the documenting, record keeping and data basing of all production information
- Assisting in research and obtaining technical information for future productions
- Assisting in the technical drawing and documentation of current repertoire
- As assigned, supervising loading and unloading crew calls at the theatre and warehouse
- As assigned, supervising set-up and performance calls
- Generally assisting the Director of Production in the day-to-day operations of the production department
- Post-secondary education in a technical/production field and 3-5 years experience working in a unionized environment
- Working knowledge of MS Office and knowledge of Vectorworks an asset
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation in the performance industry
- Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast paced environment under time constraints
- Ability to work evenings and weekends

3 Month Publicity Internship
The National Ballet of Canada, Canada's premiere dance company and one of the world's top international dance companies is looking for an energetic and exceptionally motivated individual to fill this exciting internship opportunity.
The Publicity Intern is an active member of the Communications team and provides support to the entire department. The Publicity Intern will work directly with the Senior Public Relations Manager and Publicity Coordinator in many capacities with a focus on administrative tasks. Through exposure to the many facets behind formulating and executing PR plans, the Intern will learn in a very hands-on environment how a communications department in a large performing arts organization functions. The Publicity Intern will participate in the many varied stages and tasks that comprise the promotion behind a season of performances at The National Ballet of Canada.
Please note that this is a full time unpaid experiential opportunity.
Key Tasks:- Mount, format, copy and post daily clippings
- Assist with circulation of information internally, posting on bulletin boards and distributing in mailboxes
- Track upcoming coverage and create media reports
- Assemble and collate media kits, print and photocopy articles and assemble kits
- Assist with research and updates of PR database
- Miscellaneous administrative duties i.e. couriering, mailing, photocopying and CD burning
- Post secondary education in related field an asset
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written communication and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision
- Ability to support several projects at one time
- Strong computer skills
