Biography

Elena Lobsanova was born in Moscow, Russia. She received her training at Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto where she was the recipient of both the Peter Dwyer Award and the Christopher Ondaatje Award. Ms. Lobsanova was an Apprentice with The National Ballet of Canada from in 2004 and joined the company as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2005.

Since joining the company. Ms. Lobsanova has danced the lead role of Nina in the North American premiere of John Neuemeier’s The Seagull, the Snow Queen in The Nutcracker and Maria in West Side Story Suite. She has also danced roles in Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Petrouchka, Song of the Earth, The Four Seasons, Wolf’s Court and George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, Theme and Variations, The Four Temperaments and Emeralds and Diamonds from Jewels.

Ms. Lobsanova danced in the company premieres of Balanchine’s Don Quixote (2007) and Jerome Robbins’ West Side Story Suite (2007).

Ms. Lobsanova performed the white swan pas de deux from Swan Lake with Principal Dancer Nehemiah Kish at a celebration in honour of National Ballet founder Celia Franca’s 85th birthday in 2006 with Ottawa’s School of Dance.
